# Sun Settings

The **Sun Settings** control the primary directional light used to illuminate the Earth. These parameters define the Sun's intensity, color temperature, rotation around the globe, and north–south position relative to the equator.

{% hint style="info" %}
All parameters on this page are animatable in Level Sequencer, allowing you to create dynamic lighting changes over time.
{% endhint %}

## Sun Light Intensity

`Sun Light Intensity` controls the intensity of the primary Sun light, measured in **lux**.

The default value of **`100,000` lux** provides a physically based starting point for direct sunlight. Unreal Engine uses direct normal illuminance in lux for Directional Lights, and physically based sunlight is typically represented at approximately this scale.

Increase or decrease the value to create brighter or more subdued lighting. Significant changes may also require adjusting `Exposure Compensation`.

## Sun Light Temperature

`Sun Light Temperature` controls the color temperature of the Sun light, measured in **Kelvin (K)**.

Lower values produce warmer, orange-toned lighting, while higher values shift the light toward cooler blue tones. The available range is **`1700` K to `12000` K**, with **`6000` K** used as the default neutral daylight setting.

## Sun Light Rotation

`Sun Light Rotation` rotates the Sun around the Earth, allowing you to position the illuminated side of the globe at the desired longitude.

Only one rotation axis is exposed intentionally. `Sun Light Rotation` controls the Sun's position around the globe, while the north–south position of the sunlight is controlled separately by `Solar Declination`.

## Solar Declination

`Solar Declination` controls the north–south position of the Sun relative to the Earth's equator.

A value of `0°` places the Sun above the equator, producing an equinox-like lighting configuration. Values toward **`−23.44°`** or **`+23.44°`** move the direct illumination toward opposite hemispheres and approximate the seasonal extremes reached around the solstices.

Adjust or animate this parameter to reproduce the annual north–south shift of the Sun's apparent position.

{% hint style="info" %}
`Solar Declination` is controlled directly rather than calculated from a calendar date, making the Sun's annual north–south shift easy to art-direct and animate.
