# Camera Positioning

`BP_EarthCameraRig` uses geographic coordinates and distance-based controls to position the camera around the Earth. Instead of manually moving the Camera Rig in world space, you define a geographic target location and position the camera relative to it.

`Latitude` and `Longitude` define the location on the Earth's surface. `Target Altitude (Km)` offsets the `Orbit Target` above that location, while `Camera Distance (Km)` controls the distance between the target and the camera.

## Latitude and Longitude

`Latitude` and `Longitude` define the geographic position of the `Orbit Target` in degrees.

`Latitude` controls the north-south position, while `Longitude` controls the east-west position around the globe. These parameters provide a convenient way to move the Camera Rig directly to a known geographic location without manually adjusting its transform.

{% hint style="info" %}
`Longitude` normally uses values from `-180` to `180`, but values outside this range can also be used when animating continuous movement around the Earth.
{% endhint %}

## Target Altitude

`Target Altitude (Km)` defines the height of the `Orbit Target` above the Earth's surface.

At `0`, the target is positioned directly on the surface. Increasing the value moves the target outward from the Earth while preserving its current latitude and longitude.

This parameter changes the position of the target itself — it does not directly define the camera's altitude.

## Camera Distance

`Camera Distance (Km)` controls the distance between the camera and the `Orbit Target`.

Increasing the value moves the camera farther away from the target, while decreasing it brings the camera closer. Together with `Target Altitude (Km)`, this allows the same geographic location to be framed from very different viewing distances.

For example, the same latitude and longitude can be used for a close surface shot, a low-orbit view, or a distant globe composition simply by adjusting these distance parameters.

## Follow Earth Rotation

`Follow Earth Rotation` determines whether the Camera Rig follows the Earth's rotation.

When enabled, the Camera Rig remains associated with the same geographic location as the Earth rotates. When disabled, the camera does not automatically follow that rotation.

By combining geographic coordinates, target altitude, and camera distance, the Camera Rig can cover a wide range of shots while keeping positioning intuitive and independent of Unreal Engine world-space transforms.
